The STAR 3+ Program at Richmond Hill Figure Skating Club is for skaters who have progressed beyond STAR 2 and are ready for more advanced skills, performance, and training. This level continues development in the STARSkate disciplines of Skills, Freeskate, Artistic, and Dance, following Skate Canada’s standardized assessment system.

In STAR 3, skaters begin to work on more challenging elements, such as the Axel jump, advanced spins, deeper edges, and refined musical interpretation..

Entry Requirements:
To participate in the STAR 3+ Program, skaters must meet one of the following:

Completed STAR 2 Skills, Dance, and Freeskate assessments
OR
Meet the following element standards:
- Skills: STAR 2 backward edges and three-turns
- Jumps: Waltz, Salchow, Toe Loop, Loop, Flip
- Spins: Upright Spin (USp), Sit Spin (SSp), Camel Spin (CSp), Back Upright Spin (BUSp)
- Dance: Must know Dutch Waltz (2A) and Canasta Tango (2B) dances, and be working on Baby Blues (3A) dance

Program Structure at RHFSC:
All STAR 3–5 sessions will now include a 30-minute group lesson for all skaters, providing focused, coach-led instruction on key skills and performance components. Private lessons are highly recommended for additional progress, allowing skaters to receive one-on-one technical feedback and personalized training.

This program falls within Skate Canada’s Long-Term Development framework in the Learn to Train stage. At this stage, the focus is on developing strong technical skills, enhancing performance quality, and preparing athletes for higher-level STAR assessments, competitions, and potential entry into the Podium Pathway.
